I graduated from The Ohio State University in 1990 with my Bachelor of Science in Nursing and began my career at OSU Hospitals, working in both the cardiac step-down unit and the surgical intensive care unit. These roles gave me extensive experience with a wide range of disease processes and medications.
In 1994, I returned to OSU to pursue my Master of Science in Nursing and earned my Nurse Practitioner certification in 1998. I began practicing here in Mount Vernon that same summer and have been proud to serve this community ever since. Throughout my career, I’ve had the privilege of working in several outstanding practices, learning from many talented and knowledgeable colleagues.
Fun fact: I once thought I would become an English teacher—but life led me to the medical field, and I wouldn’t have it any other way. I truly enjoy getting to know my patients, learning from them, teaching them, and being part of their lives.
Family healthcare is medical care for people of all ages—from babies to seniors. It focuses on keeping families healthy by providing checkups, treating illnesses, managing chronic conditions, and offering preventive care.
Annual visits are yearly checkups where your healthcare provider reviews your overall health, updates screenings, checks for any early signs of problems, and helps you stay on track with preventive care.
School physicals are checkups that make sure students are healthy and ready for school. They usually include reviewing medical history, checking growth, vision, hearing, and making sure required vaccines are up to date.
Adult and children physicals are routine checkups that look at overall health, growth, and development. They help catch issues early, update vaccinations, and make sure everything is on track for a healthy lifestyle at every age.
Adult care is healthcare focused on the needs of adults, including managing chronic conditions, treating illnesses, providing preventive checkups, and supporting overall wellness to keep adults healthy at every stage of life.
Hypertension, or high blood pressure, is when the force of your blood against your artery walls is consistently too high. Over time, this can strain your heart and blood vessels, increasing the risk of heart disease, stroke, and other health problems. It often has no symptoms, which is why regular checks are important.
Diabetes is a condition where the body has trouble using or making insulin, causing blood sugar levels to get too high. If not managed, it can affect your heart, kidneys, nerves, and eyes. Regular monitoring, healthy habits, and sometimes medication help keep it under control.
Weight loss is the process of reducing body weight by making healthier choices—like improving diet, increasing physical activity, and building sustainable habits. It helps improve overall health, energy levels, and lowers the risk of many medical conditions.
Referrals to specialists happen when your primary healthcare provider recommends you see a doctor who focuses on a specific area of medicine. This ensures you get expert care for conditions that need more specialized attention.
Credentialed to order testing & referrals means a healthcare provider is officially authorized and qualified to request medical tests (like blood work or imaging) and refer patients to specialists when needed. This ensures patients get the right care and follow-up.
